The Alice in Wonderland comparison seems very apt. I used to have seizures all the time, big epileptic gran mal ones. (Haven't had a seizure for over a decade now so apparently I grew out of them, knock on wood.) And I must say you nailed the destabilizing weirdness of it. The onset of a seizure for me was like reality itself dissolving. Much to learn there, both for science and for our own personal understanding of life, the world, and everything. At least I'd like to think so.Editor Bhttp://b.rox.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-28861570744097031102012-08-11T21:30:13.202-05:002012-08-11T21:30:13.202-05:00Y'all are giving me great feedback. Elizabeth, I read the essay--completely fascinating, and many parts that resonated with me.

Lisa, I'm glad you're here, and I actually didn't know that about sugar--useful! And delicious!

Danielle, I'd love to see you, but I appreciate you not honking--I might well flip you off mistakenly!

Starrlife, glad that you understand the always the researcher mentality.

For what it's worth, I jogged three times this week, all without anything weird happening.Alison Piepmeierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17972854288403934814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-33458492582490468882012-08-10T06:40:11.550-05:002012-08-10T06:40:11.550-05:00yikes. trying not to be alarmed. You probably know this already, but oncoming illness, too little sleep, too little sugar, in fact any stress can bring on seizures for some people. I also take anti seizure meds for chronic migraines, evidently there is some correlation between migraines and seizures. I hope you continue to do well :)
LisaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11051482989794391914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-89610828804888061302012-08-06T22:11:53.943-05:002012-08-06T22:11:53.943-05:00Glad to hear that the student was also and EMT and...Glad to hear that the student was also and EMT and could help you out right away, and that you are feeling better. When Biffle first emailed me (after finding a blog post I did related to REACH) he clicked on a blog in my blogroll and the post on her blog was about a neurologist and seizures and he mentioned you were going through the same thing. Didn't realize you were still dealing with it though. Sending positive thoughts your way.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02441176684416139172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-683230997990352972012-08-03T06:59:35.227-05:002012-08-03T06:59:35.227-05:00Thank you Elizabeth--I'll read that today. I almost emailed you to warn you about this post--I didn't know if it would be interesting to read or something you'd rather stay away from.

Krlr, my neuro was in a very wait-and-see mode. Apparently there's nothing to worry about (or at least they've convinced me of this). There's just almost no chance the tumor is growing, due to facts that I'll blog about at some point, so it could be stress that triggered the seizure, it could be that I need additional/different medication, or it could be random. We shall see.Alison Piepmeierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17972854288403934814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-46769626154100908892012-08-02T23:19:14.626-05:002012-08-02T23:19:14.626-05:00Here's the link to "The Ecstatic" --...Here's the link to "The Ecstatic" -- http://www.tinhouse.com/magazine/subscription-back-issues/the-ecstatic-issue-49-bundle.htmlElizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03313726816776097840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-83507170237878916622012-08-02T23:17:53.819-05:002012-08-02T23:17:53.819-05:00Thank you for sharing this with us here. As you can imagine, it's powerful stuff to read an account of seizures -- I often wonder what my daughter goes through, how she feels, etc. -- and while I know that there's no "comparing" in the world of seizures, it helps to hear it. I'm glad that you are feeling better, though, and I do hope you don't have another large one out --

Have you ever read Elissa Schappell's essay in Tin House about her epilepsy? It's one of the most remarkable things I've ever read on the subject.
