She was so adamantly pro-choice that she assumed her daughter would have the pregnancy terminated. When her daughter chose to continue the pregnancy she realized choice was more than abortion. I love that she shared that. It changed the way I understand choice.Abi jettnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-38831823912791143022012-02-07T00:54:17.572-05:002012-02-07T00:54:17.572-05:00Alison,

Also re the "right to parent", for example withholding baby Doe's esophagus surgery. Not that there's always a clear right/wrong, but I do find the convo fascinating. Why am I pro-choice at xx weeks, but not at week xx?

[I am, for example, biased about giving birth "any way you please" since NOT having a NICU nearby horrifies me.]krlrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14392064691347464660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-70050684853993094762012-01-23T15:44:34.747-05:002012-01-23T15:44:34.747-05:00I was born and adopted six months before Roe vs. W...I was born and adopted six months before Roe vs. Wade became a law. I've never met my teenage mother and I don't know what she would have done if given a choice. I would like to think that she would not have ended my life. That being said, I'm glad she didn't have the choice. You wrote in your previous post that Maybelle deserves to be here. Of course, she does!!!!! Do you think I deserve to be here? Doesn't every child deserve to be here regardless of their sex, race, or abilities? Doesn't every child have something to contribute to this world? I truly do not understand your position on this. With your job, you have such a voice and a platform to create a positive change in this world. How does ending innocent life create positive change?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-78549395756510531382012-01-23T15:23:38.554-05:002012-01-23T15:23:38.554-05:00Given the invasiveness of medicalized birth I woul...Given the invasiveness of medicalized birth I woulda thought another, but not quite as lofty, reproductive right would be "the right to give birth any way you please."Bifflehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13965722716159392121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-78205626540609723582012-01-23T09:15:08.978-05:002012-01-23T09:15:08.978-05:00Wow, thanks, Shannon!Wow, thanks, Shannon!Alison Piepmeierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17972854288403934814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-4712653424395168022012-01-23T08:41:55.510-05:002012-01-23T08:41:55.510-05:00I always enjoy your writing, but this post may be ...I always enjoy your writing, but this post may be your best work yet. It was inter...awesome! I can't wait to hear it!
It was interesting, I had ALOT of pro-life friends post links to the same story about Amelia. I am super curious to see how you and I, with such different outlooks on life, both agree on the utter insanity of Amelia's story!

Oh, and I am an avid reader of your blog. :)Cindynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-78135698622771995572012-01-22T20:00:01.136-05:002012-01-22T20:00:01.136-05:00Cindy, I haven't heard from you in a long time...Cindy, I haven't heard from you in a long time! I'm glad you're still reading.

You're asking a really excellent question here, and as I try to answer briefly, the answer keeps expanding.

So I'm going to think a bit, and I may well write my answer as a separate blog post.Alison Piepmeierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17972854288403934814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14733404.post-85402707813950486562012-01-22T19:50:22.199-05:002012-01-22T19:50:22.199-05:00Can you answer this question for me?
You say that ...Can you answer this question for me?
You say that noone should have the legal right do decide whether a woman can end her unborn child's life. Ok...But doesn't this contradict your previous post when the doctor's didn't want to provide a life saving transplant to the Amelia?
In one case, the mother is wanting to end her unborn child life.
In the other instance, doctor's are essentially trying to end a disabled girls life. Both are saying that life isn't valuable.
Why is one ok and the other not? Why is Amelia's life more valuable than the unborn child's life?
I am truly not trying to start an argument, just wanting to see your thought process on this....
thanks.Cindynoreply@blogger.com
