More on Theater of the Oppressed

I wrote yesterday's Theater of the Oppressed post while I was lounging on the bed and watching TV in my $30 hotel room (I love Priceline), so there were a few things I forgot to include. Here are some cool ideas from the workshop:

  • Expression is not the same as emancipation.
  • When things become a monologue, that's oppression. We achieve our full humanity in dialogue.
  • Forum Theater is rehearsal for revolution.

Obviously the second makes me think of VM (I think only now, in late-May, I can begin thinking about it again without getting panic attacks and wondering WILL EVERYTHING TURN OUT OK!?!?!).

Don't you think it's possible that monologues like VM are wholly necessary to start a dialogue, though?
