But atlas, Stephen is not coming on Saturday! He canceled! AND MTV canceled, so no Rock the Vote.

He needs to get in that skirt to make up for this!

Elections are serious business.
For a comedian to attempt to trivialize the democratic process for self-promotion purposes should not be allowed. Surely sanity will prevail before the polls are open for SC's primaries. For SKIRT to hitchhike on this sham is disturbing. Allison, think through your promotion of this publication's involment before it taints you with an equally poor judgment call.

I'm saving my vote for Pat Paulsen.

Too late, he died of brain cancer in Mexico years ago but you knew that. It would be a shame for anyone, especially impressionable students, to waste their vote for the likes of Colbert or any other comedian. America has serious life and death issues facing it today. Colbert's running would be a distraction we could do without. Anyone associated with his self-promotion would be subject to justifiable criticism and rightfully so.

You're right anonymous... we shouldn't let comedians mention politics in their acts. That would give everyone the idea that they were allowed to talk about issues (serious or not) with anyone they wanted. That could lead to new ideas, revolutions, and a better understanding of people and how they live in different situations. Damn free speech to hell.

Yes, look what happened when everyone voted for the comedian Ralph Nader.

Ridicule politicians and candidates all day long on stage and in any media but for anyone to actually run drawing off votes is something else indeed. The unfortunate consequence of Nader's campaign and Perot’s, both serious, makes my case. Anyone who uses the election process to self-promote for commercial purposes without intending to serve is simply a distraction drawing attention and votes away from serious candidates and issues in my opinion. While Nader and Perot don’t fall in that category, Colbert does. There is a difference.
