Puppy!

I hate to step on Biffle's post--because I am quite fond of "ramcack"--but I wanted to share the news that we have a puppy! We've been talking about getting a puppy for months now, and since Biffle's spending a lot of time around the house these days, it seemed that the time was right. She's a Rottweiler/Shepherd mix--and let me assure you all right now that Rottweilers are very nice dogs. Their bad reputation is unwarranted. And they have big, drooly heads, which is a plus.

We don't have a name for her yet. Biffle's been toying with the unprecedented (and I think highly inappropriate) move of stealing Trey and Megan's cat's name, Blooty. He's even called her Blooty a couple of times. But I promise you that is not her name.

Since we're on the subject of Trey, when I called him to tell him the news, his immediate question was, "What happened to Baxter?" In case any of the rest of you are wondering the same thing, let me assure you that Baxter is just fine. She's actually not as annoyed with the new puppy as she might have been, since the puppy's very low key so far. Here they are, meeting each other:

YEA! I am so excited that we have a new puppy in our ever growing furry family! I can't wait to meet her. I agree with cate...she is very smooshable.
...has walter put her head in his mouth yet?

My god, that might be the cutest puppy of all time. Sorry, but it's cuter than that corgi by a long shot. Why'd you decide to get another dog?

She's adorable! I'm so glad you have her picture up, and that Baxter isn't too annoyed with her...at least not yet. I love the white line down her face. Can't wait to cuddle her!

not to be redundant here, but that is one adorable puppy. Doesn't convince me that we're ready to add one to our family mix, but almost.

what do the cats think?

wow. i must not know my dogs too well. i liked the other puppy. Alison liked this one.

sarah: anyway, i beg to differ. this puppy is indeed cute, but corgi puppies have about the highest wad factor i've ever seen.

...what? what's "wad factor" you ask? Similar to BEF (beady eye factor) although not as controversial, it's the index that states how hard it is not to start drooling, wad those little bastards into a ball, and then thrown them at something. On the scale of wadness, corgi puppies are the diamonds, the adamantium, the warp drive, baby.

as a side note: many people suffer from a disability that makes them think that wad factor sounds like a form of abuse. If any of you out there are like that, well, it's okay. There's still hope for you.

Yes, Alison that is a very nice stinky-head puppy. Boy, she has some big paws for her age. As soon as she gets to relax around, you she is going to be able to respond to you.

Then, she is going to GROW...
She is going to go through the stage where she is all elbows, tail, drool and boundless energy. Loping through your house like a buffalo on speed...

Then, there is the yipping of the puppy, then the happy barkbarkbarkbark of the young size and finally the friendly, enthusiastic Baroof Roof Roof of the big, loyal, furry dogzilla.

Now, as to the name. I have a few ideas...
Charlie (for Charleston)
Wags
Nash
Babe
Cosmo

It has to be a name that you can yell when you need to without making a fool of yourself. You don't want to be outside and yell, "Here, Stinky" or "SIT, Blouty, SIT".

And, finally, Baxter needs to be sure she steps on Charlie a few times so when she gets bigger she knows that Baxter is the alpha dog.

Yea, Charlie

Are you getting your quota of puppy breath? It's the weirdest animal smell... and it suddenly disappears in a few months...

I guess it happens about the time when they figure out that they can lick their own butt.

Dude, snowballs. I laughed as long as you did. Go to cuteoverload.com and witness the magic. And yes, Walter, they have videos. Check out that pomeranians butt.

I highly approve of the name charlie, and I am completely unbiased. (though I'm just going to pretend that you named it after me, lest I break into a sweat just thinking of the charlestonian humidity)

*is going to ask landlord if he can have a puppy RIGHT NOW*

Ohg, and if all y'all haven't seen it, kittenwar.com and stuffonmycat.com for even more unbearable cuteness.

OH MY GOODNESS.
Alison, when you left the office yesterday and said "I gotta go home and take care of the puppy" I seriously I thought you meant Baxter.

(Considering how I call Mimi a puppy still, despite being 16 years old)

I will think of amazing dog names this weekend....

When Dea allows me to get a dog I am going to name it Rufus King in honor of William Rufus Devane King, the only Alabamian to have been elected vice president. Of course, he only served in that office for 45 days before he died of tubercolis.

I'm still advocating for the puppy to be named J. Walter Weatherdog, but I don't think I will succeed. She is incredibly cute! Can we somehow feature her in the Vagina Monologues?

Dad,

I do like the idea of keeping with our one-dog trend of naming dogs after the places they're from. But rather than Charlie, which I do think is cute, we've gone with a different alternative, which Biffle's latest post will tell you about.

And yes, I think dogzilla will be about right.
